Bulls Drop Conference Series Opener at Ball State, 11-5

MUNCIE, IN - The University at Buffalo baseball team dropped the opening contest of its conference weekend series versus Ball State, 11-5, on Friday afternoon at Ball Diamond Stadium following a 90 minute rain delay.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, the Bulls cut the Cardinals' lead in half off a ground out to first, allowing senior second baseman Brad Agustin to score the Bulls' first run of the afternoon.
Facing an 11-1 deficit heading into the last third of the game, the Bulls managed to score in each of the final three innings. Agustin scored his second run of the day off a base hit through the right side by senior right fielder Charlie Karstedt, the first of the Bulls' four consecutive runs.
Following a quick three up, three down bottom of the seventh by the Cardinals, the Bulls scored a run in the top of the eighth off a sacrifice fly with runners on second and third, scoring senior shortstop Jacob Rosenbeck.
Once again, the Cardinals had a quick three up, three down inning in the bottom of the eighth with the Bulls' tallying a pair of runs in the top of the ninth. Rosenbeck drove in the Bulls' first run of the inning with an RBI double to deep right field, driving in senior center fielder Adam Skonieczki, who doubled to reach base. After a walk to senior first baseman Rob Lawler, freshman Alex Baldock drove in the Bulls' final run of the day with an RBI base hit down the right field line, scoring Rosenbeck for the second time on the day.
Rosenbeck and Baldock collected three hits at the plate including an RBI each. Rosenbeck and Agustin tied for a team-high two RBIs.
Starter Chaz Mye (3-4) recorded the Bulls' loss in 5.0 innings of work, striking out six batters.
The Bulls (15-16, 3-7 MAC) will continue in their conference weekend series against the Cardinals on Saturday, April 17 with the opening pitch at 1:00 pm.
