Bulls Swept by Charlotte in Season Opening Series

CHARLOTTE, NC – The University at Buffalo baseball team
was swept in its season opening series against Charlotte as the
Bulls fell to the 49ers, 12-4, on Sunday afternoon at Hayes
Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning, senior Adam Skonieczki robbed the 49ers' Zach Williams at the center
field wall of a sure home run to keep the Bulls within one.
The Bulls erased the 49ers lead in the top of the third, taking a
3-1 lead. The Bulls' first run came off a groundout to short
with freshman Alex Baldock crossing the plate for a 1-0 lead. With
runners at first and second, senior Jacob Rosenbeck slid a two-RBI
double down the right field line to extend Buffalo's lead to
3-1.
The 49ers stormed back with seven runs in the bottom of the inning
to recapture the lead at 8-3.
Facing a 9-3 deficit, Skonieczki dropped an RBI double in to right
center field to cut back the 49ers' lead to 9-4.
In the bottom of the eighth, Charlotte sealed the victory with a
pair of runs off a two-RBI single popped through the left side.
In his career debut, starter Brian Pullyblank (0-1) pitched in 2.2
innings of work.
The season opening series marked the first ever meeting between the
Bulls and 49ers with Charlotte now holding a 3-0 all-time overall
record.
For the series, Rosenbeck led the Bulls with a .444 batting average
including a pair of doubles and RBIs. Fellow senior Brad Cochrane
batted .400 with a double and an RBI.
The Bulls (0-3) will travel to Morehead State for a four-game
series beginning Friday, March 5 with the first pitch at 3:00
pm.
