Bulls Drop Season Opener to Charlotte, 11-5

CHARLOTTE, NC – The University at Buffalo baseball team dropped its season opener against Charlotte, 11-5 on Friday afternoon at Hayes Stadium in the first meeting between the two teams.
To open the 2010 season, the Bulls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in
the top of the first inning. Leading off senior Brad Agustin
managed to reach base after being hit by a pitch. In a failed
pickoff attempt, Agustin would reach third putting the Bulls in
scoring position. With fellow senior Adam Skonieczki grounding to
third, Agustin scored the Bulls' first run of the 2010
campaign.
The 49ers erased the Bulls' lead in the bottom of the second with
the bases loaded scoring off a walk and passed ball for a 2-1
lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Charlotte extended its lead to 4-1 as
the Bulls committed a fielding error resulting in a run followed by
an RBI single.
Buffalo would trim back Charlotte's lead to 4-3 in the top of
the sixth as senior Charlie Karstedt smashed a two-run shot to deep
right-center.
The Bulls pulled the 49ers' lead back to 9-5 in the top of
the eighth as senior Rob Lawler drilled a two-RBI double into
center field.
Charlotte continued its streak of scoring in the bottom of the
eighth, driving in three runs to secure its lead and victory.
Offensively, Karstedt went 2-for-4 with a home run and senior Jacob Rosenbeck went 2-for-2 and scored a pair of runs. Senior Brad Cochrane recorded three hits and a run scored.
Starter Pierre Miville-Deschenes (0-1) recorded the Bulls'
loss in 4.2 innings of work with four strikeouts.
The Bulls (0-1) will hit the field on Saturday, February 27 against
the 49ers (2-2) with the first pitch set for 1:00 pm.
