Buffalo Divers Compete at Arizona Invitational

BUFFALO, NY – Three University at Buffalo divers competed over the weekend at the University of Arizona Diving Invitational which concluded Sunday as both of UB's men's entries reached the consolation rounds on the one- and three-meter boards.
Colin Patrican earned a fifth-place finish in the consolation round of the men's one-meter event on Friday. Patrican finished with a six-dive total of 281.70 points. He qualified 10th in the preliminary round with a total of 283.75. Teammate Kenny Rhoades finished 27th of the 35 entrants in the prelims with a six-dive total of 218.05. The top 16 divers in each event moved to the finals with the eight highest scores competing in the championship and the next eight in the consolation.
Both Rhoades and Patrican reached the consolation round in the men's three-meter event, held on Saturday. Rhoades finished fifth in the consolation with a six-dive total of 307.25 points. Patrican took seventh among the eight divers with a score of 276.30. The two reached the consolation round after Rhoades finished 14th (296.40) and Patrican finished 15th (277.10) in the preliminaries.
Rhoades also competed in Sunday's platform competition finishing fourth among 11 entrants with total of 268.70 points for his six-dive program.
Freshman Ava Giachino represented the UB women in Arizona. Giachino finished 36th in the preliminary rounds on both the one- and three-meter boards. Her one-meter total was 210.55 points on Saturday after she tallied 210.45 points in Friday's three-meter preliminaries. Giachino also placed 26th of 38 divers in Sunday's platform competition with 162.50 points for five dives.
UB's divers will join the swim team as the Bulls compete at the University of Akron's Zippy Invitational starting on December 3.
