BUFFALO, NY – Junior kicker A.J. Principe was named Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of Week on Monday following his performance in the Bulls' 9-6 victory over Kent State on Friday.
Principe accounted for all of the Bulls' scoring in their 9-6 season-ending win over Kent State. His third field goal proved to be the game winner as he nailed a 22-yarder with five seconds remaining to break a 6-6 tie. He also connected on two other field goals of 24 yards each.
Not only did Principe's third field goal win the game for the Bulls, but it also made the junior kicker the school's all-time leading scorer with 224 total points.
This is the third time Principe has won the award. He was also honored after kicking three field goals, including the game-winner in UB's four-overtime win at Akron last season and after kicking four field goals against Syracuse in 2007.
Principe is the fourth UB player this season to earn Player of the Week honors as Zach Maynard was named Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against Pittsburgh in week two, Mike Newton won defensive kudos following the Bulls' win over Akron and Naaman Roosevelt was named Offensive Player of the Week following his career game against Ohio.
