Carpenter Sets New School Record as Bulls Drop Close Meet To Ohio

ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team lost a close meet to the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday afternoon at Ohio's Aquatic Center. The meet came down to the final relay with the Bulls just missing out on their first MAC win of the season, as they fell to the Bobcats 154-146. Senior diver Meili Carpenter swept the diving events for the second day in a row, setting an Ohio pool record while breaking her own UB record in the three-meter event.
The Bulls took an early lead with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay as the foursome of Jessica Ballard, Brynn Marecki, Sam Palmaand Caroline Simmons swam to an impressive time of 3:52.60. The next Buffalo win came from Marecki in the 100 breaststroke as she touched out the Ohio competition with a time of 1:06.17. Marecki also placed first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:23.43. Freshmen duo Logan Mason and Dani Adank took a 1-2 finish in the 200 butterfly, finishing in times of 2:08.50 and 2:10.32, respectively. Simmons also picked up a first-place win for the Bulls, winning the 100 freestyle in a time of 52.36.
"It was a very exciting meet and I'm very proud of how we swam," said head coach Andy Bashor. "We raced well, we just need to learn how to be better going up against the best in the conference, so that's the next step, but all-in-all, it was a great weekend for us."
The Bulls will return home and join the men in hosting a pair of MAC meets next weekend at UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium. The teams will take on Eastern Michigan on Friday, November 6 at 5 pm and then host Ball State at 1 pm on Saturday, November 7.
