- The winningest high school coach in Central Florida history.
- The Kenmore native, known for his calm demeanor on the sidelines, stands 8th in the entire state with his 274-109-2 career coaching record that spanned 38 years before his retirement.
- A total of 261 of those victories were accomplished at Winter Park High, a school with an enrollment of 3,600 and a standard of excellence unmatched by any program in the state in the 1980s.
- During that decade, his teams were the most successful in the Sunshine State, with an 87-13 mark and two appearances in the state semifinals.
- MVP of the 1965 UB Baseball team - he pitched in Yankee Stadium in the NCAA College Division Tournament - and football co-captain; the Winter Park School District paid Larry the ultimate compliment - they now play their games in Larry Gergley Stadium.
