Russell J. Gugino Award
1951
- A past president of the UB Alumni Association (1975-76) and long-time supporter of UB Athletics. He is the inaugural Russell J. Gugino Award recipient.
- George enrolled at UB on a football scholarship and also competed in wrestling before a knee injury curtailed his athletic career.
- He has been a key fundraiser for the Blue and White Club, a member of the Gre Bulls and has served as a host for game officials who were working UB Football games.
- A former official himself in a career spanning 38 years in high school competition and 8 years in the collegiate ranks, he is an honorary life member of the Western New York Chapter of the State Association of Certified Football Officials.
- Honored on 2 other occasions by the officials', he was also inducted into the Bennett High School Hall of Fame and was similarly recognized in the Harvard Cup Hall of Fame inaugural class.
- George retired as an official after working his last, of many, Buffalo Public High Schools Harvard Cup Championship games in 1998.
