INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Late on Tuesday evening, the NCAA announced the 2022 Division I Indoor Track and Field Championship selections. With no surprise, Brandon Burke was selected for this year's NCAA Indoor Championships.
Burke holds the school record in the high jump at 2.20-meters that he set at the MAC Championships over the weekend. He heads into the NCAA Championships tied for 10th in the Division I. Other competitors are from Auburn, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma, just to name a few.
This is the third year in a row the Bulls have sent a field athlete to the NCAA Indoor Championships. In 2020, UB's school record holder Shevaughn Allen would compete in the triple jump but would not have a chance to show his talents as the championships would be canceled just one day before competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year Burke finished with All-American status as he finished seventh overall.
"We are proud of and excited for Brandon's NCAA qualification in the high jump," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "His lead-up to competition at the MAC Championships as set him up well to be ready for new heights at the NCAA Championships next week."
This year's NCAA Indoor Championships are set to begin on Friday, March 11 and run through Saturday, March 12. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will host this year's championships at CrossPlex.
