BUFFALO, NY – For the second time in the last three weeks, University at Buffalo sophomore outside hitter Polina Prokudina has been named the Mid-American Conference East Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday evening.
Prokudina was named to the All-Tournament team at the Charleston Invite as she led the Bulls to a 2-1 finish. She recorded a pair of double-doubles in the two victories for the Bulls beginning in the four-set win over Mercer where she had 11 kills and 10 digs. Prokudina then led the Bulls to a five-set win over Appalachian State as she recorded 26 kills against the Mountaineers, the third time this season she has had at least 26 kills in a match. She also added 17 digs in that contest. Prokudina completed the weekend with 15 kills in a three-set loss to Charleston, averaging 5.00 kills per set against the Cougars.
Prokudina already has 180 kills through the first 11 matches of the season for the Bulls, averaging 4.09 kills per set. She is third on the team in digs with 104 and she is one of four players on UB's roster to have double figures in service aces with 11. She had failed to reach double figures in kills just twice through 11 matches and she has five double-doubles on the year.
After concluding non-conference play with a 7-4 record, the Bulls will open up the Mid-American Conference portion of their schedule this weekend when they host Ohio on Friday and Kent State on Saturday. Both matches are set to begin at 6pm.
