Bulls Sweep Past Northern Illinois

ROCKFORD, IL – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team closed out their road trip with a 7-0 victory at Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon, winning all six singles matches in straight sets.

The Bulls took the point in doubles with identical 6-1 victories at first and third doubles.  At first doubles, Chantal Martinez Blanco and Nikoleta Antoniou Karademitrou came away with the victory, while the third doubles win came courtesy of Emel Abibula and Hsin-Yuan Shih.

In singles action, Martinez Blanco won at first singles, 6-3, 6-2, while Antoniou Karademitrou claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at second singles. Freshman Pia Schwarz won 6-2, 6-1 at three and Shih dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at four.  Abibula won 6-2, 6-4 at fifth singles, and senior Sanjana Sudhir swept her opponent at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.

"I was impressed with the way we came back today after Friday," said head coach Kristen Maines. "Today we competed like we needed to if we want to win this conference."

The Bulls return home on Saturday for Senior Day against Akron.  The match is at 1pm at Miller Tennis Center.
