WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team won its sixth straight match on Friday as the Bulls opened Mid-American Conference play with a 6-1 win over Bowling Green at Miller Tennis Center.
UB opened action by securing the doubles point with wins at second and third doubles. After BG won at one, Buffalo secured a victory at three as Emel Abibula and Hsin-Yuan Shih won, 6-4. The Bulls then secured the point at second doubles in tiebreaking fashion as Pia Schwarz and Arianna Paules Aldrey won 7-6 (4).
Buffalo claimed five of the six matches in singles with Bowling Green winning its lone match at two. Senior Chantal Martinez Blanco won at first singles, 6-3, 6-3, while Schwarz picked up a win at three with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
Shih secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory at fourth singles, while Abibula won her match at five, 6-3, 6-0. Senior Sanjana Sudhir closed out the win with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-1 victory at six.
"We were solid in doubles today and to come away with a win at two when we trailed the whole match was a huge spark for us," said head coach Kristen Maines. "We played very confident in singles and overall this was a fantastic way to start the conference season over a strong Bowling Green team."
Buffalo remains home on Sunday when its hosts Miami (OH) at 1pm at Miller Tennis Center.
