Women’s Tennis Sweeps MAC Weekly Awards

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards the league announced on Wednesday as senior Chantal Martinez Blanco was named the singles player of the week, while Martinez Blanco and freshman Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou were named the doubles team of the week.

Martinez Blanco split her two matches this past weekend at No. 1 singles. On Friday, she dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Rutgers' number one player, but she bounced back with a straight-sets win on Saturday against Salma Ziouti of Drexel, 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Martinez Blanco and Antoniou-Karademitrou went a perfect 2-0 in doubles action this past weekend with road matches at Rutgers and Drexel.  On Friday, the Bulls came away with a 6-0 shutout victory over the top squad from Rutgers out of the Big Ten as they helped Buffalo secure the doubles point against the Scarlet Knights.  On Saturday, Martinez Blanco and Antoniou-Karademitrou won their match at first doubles against Drexel, 6-3. They are now 13-3 on the season.

The Bulls will return home for three matches this upcoming weekend as they will play twice on Friday and once on Saturday.  UB will first meet Binghamton at 1pm, followed by St. Bonaventure at 7:00 pm.  They will conclude on Saturday at 1pm vs. Oakland.  All matches will take place at the Miller Tennis Center.
