• Women’s Soccer Announces 11 Player Signing Class

    BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's soccer head coach Shawn Burke announced his largest signing class since becoming UB head coach prior to the 2014 campaign on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulls will welcome a total of 11 student-athletes to the team, 10 freshman and one transfer student-athlete.

    Four University at Buffalo student-athletes were named Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athletes for the fall sports seasons, the league announced on Thursday. The four include Julia Benati and Carissima Cutrona from women's soccer, John McCarty from men's cross country and Tim Roberts from football. Voted on by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions, these student-athletes represent the 'best of the best' from each sports Academic All-MAC Teams.

Julia Benati, Carissima Cutrona and Laura Dougall earned the nod for the third straight season while Meghan Simmons was named to the team for the second time. Gurjeena Jandu, Mairead Martin and Adrianna VanCuyck earned the recognition for the first time in their UB careers.

Cutrona and Benati earned a spot on the District 1 squad that includes teams from New York, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The win clinched the Bulls fourth straight trip to the MAC Tournament which will begin next Sunday with the quarterfinal round.
  • Soccer Drops Heartbreaker To Ball State On Thursday Night, 2-1

    BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team (6-8-2, 4-4-1 MAC) was able to tie the game, 1-1, late in the second half on Thursday night at UB Stadium but it wasn’t enough as they were defeated by Ball State, 2-1. During the match, senior goalkeeper Laura Dougall was able to set the all-time MAC record for minutes played by a goalkeeper as she has now appeared in 7,109 minutes in a Buffalo jersey.

    In recognition of a leadership gift made by the Murchie family to the recently announced fieldhouse, the UB Council endorsed a resolution, on Monday, to name the new fieldhouse at the University at Buffalo, the Murchie Family Fieldhouse in honor of former UB hockey player Tunney Murchie and his family. The naming is subject to the approval of the SUNY Chancellor and the SUNY Board of Trustees.
