BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team will compete at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Central Michigan this weekend. Wrestling will begin at noon on Saturday at McGuirk Arena and will conclude on Sunday.
Heavyweight Jake Gunning will look to repeat as MAC Champion. The redshirt-junior defeated Eastern Michigan's Gage Hutchinson to take the title a season ago and both are on track for a rematch as Gunning and Hutchinson are seeded first and second, respectively, again this year.
Bryan Lantry will look to improve on his runner-up finish a season ago as he heads into the MAC Championships as the third seed at 133 lbs. The redshirt-freshman is 14-4 overall and 10-3 in duals on the season and currently ranks 14th in the national rankings.
Kyle Akins is the second seed at 125 lbs. heading into the championships and looks for a return to the national tournament after finishing fourth last year. However, this season, their will only be two allocations at 125, so it will be a tougher road.
