2016-17: Mid-American Conference Champion at 285 lbs… went 20-7 on the season, including 14-3 in duals… went 5-3 in MAC duals… earned a 7-2 decision over 17th-ranked Gage Hutchison of Eastern Michigan on Feb. 3 and then topped him again, 3-2, in the MAC title match… advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career… had 30 takedowns and 26 escapes on the season.  

2015-16: Had a brilliant initial campaign with the Bulls, posting a team-best 12 duals wins and five MAC dual victories on the season… went 18-12 overall… recorded 41 takedowns, 12 more than anyone else on the team… had two falls and a tech fall on the season… took second place at the New York State Championships… went 2-2 at Midlands… advanced to the finals of the MAC Championships before falling to two-time MAC Champion Blaize Cabell… qualified for the UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials.  

2014-15: Redshirted as a freshman... collected a 28-8 record in open tournaments during the season... was invited and attended the USA Wrestling World Cup Training Camp.

High School: Was a four-year member and two-year team captain at Liberty High School. As a senior, Gunning racked up a 40-5 record while leading the team in pins (most in school history) and takedowns. Was a two-time Pennsylvania state qualifier including a third place finish as a senior. He was named Fargo All-American along with NHSCA Senior All-American and a Super 32 place winner as a senior. He also was the district and regional champion as a senior.
