Women’s Basketball Places Four on Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, OH – After another successful season on the court, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team saw the accolades pour in off the court as well, as four UB student-athletes earned a spot on the Academic All-MAC team, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

A total of 52 student-athletes were named to the 2019 squad.

Earning the recognition for the third straight season was senior Ayoleka Sodade while Theresa Onwuka was honored for the second time in her career and Brittany Morrison and Hanna Hall each earned the recognition for the first time in their UB careers.

Sodade, a health and human services major with a 3.436 GPA, was honored for the third straight season. The senior appeared in 20 games and played 105 minutes while scoring 28 points and grabbing 19 rebounds, seven assists and nine steals.

A health and human services major with a 3.823 GPA, Onwuka was placed on the squad for a second straight season. The junior started in 33 of 34 games for the Bulls this season, averaging career-highs in points (9.4), rebounds (5.3) and minutes (26.1) while finishing with 44 steals, 42 assists and 10 blocks.

Morrison, a social sciences major with a 3.264 GPA, earned the Academic All-MAC recognition for the first time as a Bull. The North Ridgeville, Ohio native had the best season of her career averaging 16.9 minutes, 6.3 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting a career-high 75.6% from the charity stripe. She ranked first on the team with 87 offensive rebounds and second with 194 total rebounds.

Earning the recognition for the first time in her Buffalo career, Hanna Hall is a psychology major with a 3.783 GPA. She had a breakout sophomore campaign, appearing in 34 games while earning 27 starts and averaged 6.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game, while finishing with 25 steals and 101 assists. The Hamilton, Ontario native earned All-MAC Tournament honors after averaging 13.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists over three games in Cleveland.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
