BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's basketball senior guard Cierra Dillard has been named one of four finalists for the Dawn Staley Award.
Joining Dillard as finalists for the prestigious award are Asia Durr (University of Louisville), Sabrina Ionescu (University of Oregon) and Arike Ogunbowale (University of Notre Dame).
"The Dawn Staley Award is given to the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country, a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed during her career (ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win)," says Michael G. Horsey, Founder of the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia.
The Rochester, NY native has taken her play to another level this season as she is averaging 25.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.9 steals in 36.3 minutes per game. She currently ranks second in the nation in scoring, free throws made (202) and free throws attempted (252) and third in field goals attempted (570) and final points (733).
Past award winners include Skylar Diggins (2013), Odyssey Sims (2014), Tiffany Mitchell (2015), Moriah Jefferson (2016), Kelsey Plum (2017) and Kelsey Mitchell (2018).
Dawn Staley will present the award during the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia's Dawn Staley Award reception Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the prestigious Union League of Philadelphia.
