Cherie Cordoba Promoted To Women’s Hoops Associate Head Coach

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced Tuesday morning that assistant coach Cherie Cordoba has been promoted to Associate Head Coach entering the 2018-19 campaign.

"I am honored and privileged to announce that we have elevated Coach Cordoba to Associate Head Coach for our WBB Program," said UB women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. "Cherie has been with me at three different Universities and she has been an incredible recruiter, organizer, and coach at every stop. Each year she and I have worked together we have accomplished amazing feats."

Cordoba was reunited with Legette-Jack in 2014-15 as she came to Buffalo after a brief hiatus from coaching and she has helped turn UB into a power not only in the MAC but also on the national stage. Cordoba has been on Legette-Jack's staffs at Hofstra, Indiana and Buffalo and has helped Buffalo earn a 90-43 overall record across her four seasons with the Bulls including three straight 20+ win seasons for just the second time in program history.

The Australia native was very instrumental in the recruitment of four Australian born players that helped turn the Bulls into a winning program. Cordoba helped Stephanie Reid become one of the best point guards in the country under her tutelage as she broke the Bulls program record for assists in a career (681) last season. The three other Australian players, Katherine Ups, Liisa Ups and Courtney Wilkins, had strong impacts on the program as the Bulls were able to advance to their first-ever Sweet 16 this past season.

After helping the Bulls advance to their first NCAA Tournament in program history in 2016, Cordoba helped guide the Bulls to another NCAA Tournament in 2017-18, this time collecting a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents on the way to UB's first-ever Sweet 16 appearance. The Bulls two NCAA Tournament appearances have come with Cordoba on staff and with her leadership and knowledge UB is well positioned for future appearances in the big dance.

"Cherie has not only helped bring in quality student-athletes that have helped us break significant records here at UB, but she is also the direct contact for our Silver Bulls, an organized group of amazing people who support our program," stated Legette-Jack. "Cherie is a head coach in the making! I am thrilled that we get to have her with us as long as we have. Please help me celebrate this promotion of Coach Cordoba with your continued support of our women's basketball program."
