    Buffalo Junior Leon Atkins became the first UB Male athlete to qualify in the 800m for the NCAA Final Championships on Friday evening, as the middle-distance specialist qualified with a time of 1:49.87, finishing with the 12th fastest time in a field of 48 runners from all over the eastern United States. Atkins becomes the first UB Male athlete to qualify in the 800m event for the NCAA Final Championships.
  • Five Bulls Slated to Compete in NCAA East Preliminaries

    BUFFALO, NY – Five members of the University at Buffalo track and field team will compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries, which run from May 23-25, at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. To qualify for the NCAA Preliminaries, a student-athlete must be ranked in the top-48 in their respective event. Leon Atkins, Devon Patterson, Sam Wray, Brandon Burke and Shevaugh Allen will all compete for Buffalo as they look to advance to the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Texas on June 5-8.

    BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams collected four medals, and 11 podium finishes, on the final day of competition at the 2019 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Briner Sports Complex in Muncie, Ind. on Saturday. One of the highlights of the day was Bulls sophomore Brandon Burke claiming the MAC Championship in the high jump event, clearing the bar at a height of 2.15m, his second-highest mark this season. Burke becomes just the second student-athlete in UB history to claim the gold medal in the high jump event.

The day was highlighted by senior Devon Patterson’s victory in the men’s shot put event with a distance of 17.98m, earning himself an individual MAC Championship, the second outdoor championship of his career in the event. Patterson’s championship performance continues the Bull’s dominance in the shot put event, as it marks the 10th consecutive year a Bull has won the event.

The day was highlighted by sophomore Brandon Burke’s record-breaking showing in the high jump event, clearing the bar at a height of 7'2.50" (2.20m), a new program record. The mark currently ranks Burke first in the MAC and 12th in the entire NCAA, the highest any UB student-athlete has been ranked since Bulls shot put specialist Jon Jones claimed a national championship for Buffalo.

    LEWISBURG, PA – The University at Buffalo track & field program returned to action this weekend, competing in the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by the Bucknell University at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa. Buffalo Freshman Shevaughn Allen shined for the Bulls, as he leapt to a personal best 50’3.50” on his way to claiming victory in the event, ranking him first in the MAC, #18 in the NCAA East, and second all-time in program history. Leon Atkins successful campaign carried into the weekend as the mid-distance specialist claimed victory in the 800m with a personal best mark of 1:49.97, moving him up to the 28th best mark in the NCAA East region. Atkins’ mark still ranks first in the MAC, and now ranks as the fourth fastest time in program history.
