BUFFALO, NY – Matthew Mercer and Devon Patterson were both awarded Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors after their performances at the 2019 Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton University last Saturday, the conference announced.
Mercer, a long-distance specialist for the Bulls who also competes in the schools cross country program, broke a personal best time in the 3000k steeple chase event, crossing the line in fourth place with a time of 9:04.28. The performance currently ranks Mercer third in the Mid-American Conference and 17th in the NCAA East Region. Mercer's time is also the second fastest in program history.
Patterson, a senior thrower, placed second in the men's shot put event with a season-best mark of 18.12m. The distance currently ranks him first in the Mid-American Conference and 16th in the NCAA East Region.
The Bulls return to action next weekend as they head to Lewisburg, P.a., for the Bucknell Bison Open set for Friday and Saturday.
