Buffalo Track & Field, Cross Country, Announce 2019 Signing Class

Buffalo, NY  –  University at Buffalo track & field and cross country program director and Head Coach Vicki Mitchell announced her 2019 signing class on Monday morning. The Bulls will welcome a total of four student-athletes to the teams.

Kaylah Britt, Maxine Dupuis, Alexia Hecicio, and John Surdej have all signed the National Letter of Intent to attend the University at Buffalo.

"We are thrilled to welcome this outstanding group of recruits to our program", stated Mitchell. "Each one brings a wealth of experience as well as a tremendous work ethic. They will help our team continue to make noise in the Mid-American Conference, as well as the NCAA."


Kaylah Britt - William Floyd HS - Mastic Beach, New York

Kaylah will join the Bulls as a Triple Jump Specialist. She was the NYS runner-up in 2018, and has a personal best of 39'0.5". Kaylah plans to major in Biology. 

Mitchell on Kaylah: "Each year, Kaylah has improved her marks and with work ethic, only more is to come.  We are excited to have Kaylah join our horizontal jump squad continue to increase the depth and quality our jumpers."


Maxine Dupuis - Theriault Secondary School - Timmons, Ontario

Dupuis comes to Buffalo as a distance specialist, excelling in cross-country and track & field.  Maxine placed 9th at the 2018 OFSAA Cross Country Championship and 3rd at the 2018 All-Ontario U-20 Championships, and currently serves as the goalie for her club hockey team.  She has competed internationally for Canada in Track and XC and brings excellence experience to the Bulls distance squads.  Maxine will be majoring in Biomedical Engineering with hopes of attending graduate school in Dentistry.

Mitchell on Maxine: "Maxine will bring strength, depth, and experience to the UBXC and distance squad and will make an immediate impact with the program."



Alexia Hecico -  Baia Mare, Romania

Hecico comes to Buffalo all the way from Romania, as she will join the women's distance squads here at UB. Alexia has excelled in Mountain Running, reprsenting Romania at several International competitions, including the 2018 Junior World Mountain Running Championships in Canillo, Andorra where she placed 6th overall. Alexia plans to major in Business. 

Mitchell on Alexia: "Alexia has been competing internationlly for several years.  Her mother has been her coach, and she comes from a very athletic family. We are very excited to have her joining our program at the University at Buffalo.  Alexia will be an immediate force the women's distance squad and will help bring the women's program to a new level."



Jonathan Surdej - Lancaster High School – Lancaster, New York

Surdej comes to UB from nearby Lancaster, NY where he shined as a shot putter for the Legends. Surdej was ranked as the number one ranked Shot Putter in New York State and number 10 nationally. He is the defending Indoor and Outdoor NYS Shot Put Champion from 2018. Jonathan plans to major in Engineering.

Mitchell on Jonathan: "Lancaster has produced many top-ranked throwers over that have continued their careers at the University at Buffalo.  Under UB's esteemed throws coach, Coach Jim Garnham, the UB men's throws team has won Nine Straight MAC Shot Put Titles.   Jonathan will continue the tradition of Shot Put dominance with UB Throws Team.  We are excited to have him join our throws squad lead him to his NCAA goals."
