OTTAWA, ONTARIO – University at Buffalo freshman track and field athlete Sylvia Russell finished in fourth place in the 3k Steeple Chase at the U-20 Canadian Track and Field Championships on Friday. Russell clocked in at 10:55.66 and will move on to the Canadian Games later this summer.
Russell had an outstanding freshman year for the Bulls as she finished in fourth place in the Steeple Chase at the MAC Championships, the best finish by a freshman in the league. She also represented UB at the NCAA Division I East Preliminaries in Lexington, KY.
Russell will now take part in the 2017 Canada Summer Games, where Track and Field events will take place from July 31-August 4 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The women's Steeple Chase will occur on Aug. 1. Featuring 16 sports, over 250 events and a major cultural festival, the 2017 Canada Games will welcome over 4,000 athletes and coaches and more than 20,000 visitors.
