Amy Shaw Breaks 5,000 Meter Run School Record at Jesse Owens Classic

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first of two days at the Jesse Owens Classic on Friday. Amy Shaw's performance in the 5,000 meter run was the highlight of the night as she broke the school record in the event by almost seven seconds.

Shaw ran the 5,000 meter run in 16:43.93 to place third in the showcase heat and break her third school record of the year. She now holds the school record in the indoor and outdoor 5,000 meter run and in the outdoor distance medley relay.

Morgan Mahoney and Meagan Hopkins placed fourth and fifth with times of 17:41.23 and 17:58.78, respectively, in the first heat of the 5,000 meter run.

Ryan Cribbin threw 17.96 m to finish fifth in the championship flight of the shot put. Taylor Woods finished fourth in the championship discus throw flight with her best attempt of the night of 45.57 m. Jess Dhaliwall earned a third-place finish in the open discus event with a distance of 46.15 m.

The Bulls continue competition at Ohio State University on Saturday as the Jesse Owens Classic resumes.
