ITHACA, NY - The UB men's and women's track and field teams headed to Cornell for the second time in three weeks. This time the Bulls were lead by those competing in the field events at the Upstate Challenge. UB women's track and field finished in third with 105.50 points, while the men finished in fifth with 76 points.
Megan Patterson won the shot put with an attempt of 15.13m (49-07.75) with Joanna Hallisy adding a fourth-place finish. Three Bulls finished in the top eight in the women's weight throw. Patterson finished in second with a mark of 17.45m (57-03.00), while Miranda Daucher and Jess Dhaliwall finished third and eighth, respectively, with marks of 16.93m (55-06.50) and 16.38m (53-09.00).
In the long jump Tyra Forbes finished second and hit a MAC automatic qualifying mark with her jump of 5.78m (18-11.75). Asher Beasley and Mikayla Pearce finished closely behind with fourth and fifth-place finishes. Crystal Henderson added eight team points with an attempt of 11.75m (38-06.75) in the triple jump.
The men found similar success in the jumps as well. Austin Ashby finished first in the long jump and second in the triple jump with attempts of 7.37m (24-02.25) and 14.63m (48-0.00), respectively. Chrstian Doherty earned a sixth-place finish with a jump of 6.84m (22-05.25). Hasani Rathan successfully cleared 2.04m (6-08.25) to finish in fourth in the high jump.
On the track Chardae Henry ran the mile run in 5:03.88 to earn third and six team points. Camaria Long won the women's 400 meter dash in a time of 57.19. In the men's 400 meter dash finals Thomas Meehan and Darien Johnson finished fifth and sixth in a photo finish. Both registered times of 52.43, but it was determined that Meehan finished ther race .005 seconds quicker.
In the 60 meter dash Malayah White finished in third with a time of 7.62, while Alex Siracusa placed eighth in the finals with a time of 7.18 in the men's race. The Bulls performed well in the 500 meter dash with Joshua Gali and Mitchell Moore finishes in third and fifth. Corinne Birchard placed third in the 1000m run with a time of 2:52.45.
Freshman Amy Villarini finished sixth the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.21, while Kaishuan Cathey finished fifth and Michell Fuller finished in seventh with times of 23.33 and 23.38, respectively in the men's race. The Bulls finished in third in the 4x400 relay. Kyla Kenyon, Henry, Birchard, and Beasley completed the relay in 4:01.35. Gali, Treyvon Mask, Joseph Mendola, and Moore raced to a second-place finish in the men's 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:22.81.
UB returns to action next week. Part of the team will face some of the nation's top collegiate and professional talent at Penn State on Friday and Saturday, while other members of the team travel to the competitive Spire Mid-West Invite in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday.
