Jon Jones Takes 5th At USATF Championships; Earns Spot On Team USA For Pan American Games

EUGENE, OR - Senior thrower Jonathan Jones continued his stellar senior campaign on Sunday afternoon at the 2015 USATF Championships, earning a fifth place finish in the shot put with a new personal-best throw of 20.92m (68'7.85"). The reigning NCAA National Champion earned a spot on Team USA for the Pan American Games with his record-breaking throw.

Taking to the same circle where he won a NCAA title just two weeks before, Jones yet again impressed at Hayward Field as he set another personal-best with a throw of 20.92m (68'7.85") on his third attempt of the afternoon. The giant throw by Jones moved him into fourth place, which would have earned him a spot on Team USA for the World Championships, but in the next round he was bumped down to fifth place finish.

Finishing as the top collegiate thrower, Jones will be the first alternate for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing. His monster throw also earned him a spot on Team USA for the Pan American Games which will be held in Toronto, Canada on July 20-26 and a spot in the NACAC Senior Area Championships which are being held in San Jose, Costa Rica from August 7-9.
