ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed Saturday at the Cornell Upstate Challenge, while a handful of distance runners raced Friday at Princeton's Perry Ellis Invitational.
Meghan Manley and Melinda Wheeler clocked Mid-American Conference-qualifying times at Princeton Friday night. Manley raced to a 2:08.52 finish in the elite 800-meter run to place eighth out of 61 competitors, while Wheeler ran 12th out of 63 with a 4:28.57 finish in the elite 1,500.
At Cornell, the Bulls snapped one school record, hit 11 MAC AQs, while placing 30 individuals and three relays in the top three. UB won 14 events.
Camaria Long set a new 200 dash school record to win the event in a MAC-qualifying 23.63. She set the previous record of 23.74 in 2014. Kailyn Arcury placed third in 25.95. Arcury also won the 100 hurdles in 13.89. Christine Lyttle was the runner-up and Regine Lazard placed third with times of 13.91 and 14.37, respectively. Arcury and Lyttle met the MAC AQ.
Malayah White hit the qualifier in the 100, placing second in the sprint in 11.91. She teamed with Long, Asher Beasely and Tyra Forbes to run second in the 4x100 relay with a 46.67 finish. Additionally, Forbes won the triple and long jumps with marks of 11.43 and 5.84 meters. Her long jump mark was just four centimeters shy of the qualifier. Kelly Truppo placed third in the long with a mark of 5.63 meters and third in the pole vault clearing 3.65 meters.
Meagan Hopkins was victorious in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:27.60. Natalie Muller was the second-place finisher in the 800 in 2:19.42 and Isabella Borini placed second in the javelin with a throw of 31.85 meters.
On the men's side, Darien Johnson won the 100 in a MAC-qualifying 10.63. He ran second to Joshua Gali in the 200. Gali won the sprint in 21.42, meeting the MAC mark, while Johnson clocked a 21.90 finish and Jalen Law followed in third with a time of 22.31.
Jake Wray was second in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.29 to hit the MAC AQ.
UB's two relays each took top honors. The 4x100 team of Johnson, Law, Brian Cummiskey and Billian raced to a 41.50 finish, while the 4x400 relay of Mitchell Moore, Gali, Treyvon Mask and Billian raced to a 3:17.24 finish.
Moore won the open 400 and Mask followed in second place with times of 49.05 and 49.94.
The Bulls will return to action competing at the Penn Relays Thursday through Saturday and the Cornell Big Red Invitational on Sunday.
