BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's and women's outdoor track & field teams concluded weekend competition Saturday at the Florida Relays.
Jonathan Jones had a monster day in the circle setting new Florida Relays and facility records to win the men's shot put invite with a toss of 20.70 meters. The mark ranks atop the NCAA East and the Mid-American Conference, as well as second nationally. Jones, who was just five centimeters shy of his own outdoor school record, broke the previous records of 20.59 meters on his final throw of finals. The facility and meet records had stood since 2008.
The Bulls' 4x200-meter relay team of Malayah White, Tyra Forbes, Camaria Long and Kailyn Arcury clocked a 1:38.34 finish to rewrite a 12-year-old school record and place 19th. The UB team of Jenelle Callender, Pauletta Dickerson, Krystal Seiling and Biaunca McFarland had last set the record of 1:39.40 in 2003.
The same runners teamed together to placed 27th in the 4x100 with a time of 46.49.
In addition to Jones hitting the MAC automatic qualifier in the shot put, Devon Patterson did so with a mark of 16.92 meters. He placed seventh out of 28 throwers in the open shot.
Austin Price placed 12th in the triple jump with a MAC-qualifying leap of 14.97 meters.
The Bulls return to action on Saturday and Sunday at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.
