Bulls Dominate First Outdoor T&F Meet of 2015 at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's and women's track & field teams opened their spring seasons Saturday at the Cincinnati Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. The men placed first out of 15 teams with 209 points, while the women placed third out of 16 with 103 points.

The men won nine events and the women claimed titles in three. Three of the gold-medal performances met Mid-American Conference automatic qualifiers.

Christine Lyttle won the 100-meter hurdles in a MAC-qualifying 14.17. Sabrina Bush placed second in 14.73 and Kailyn Arcury third in 14.91.

Ryan Billian won the 100 in 10.58, good to meet the MAC AQ. Darien Johnson followed in third in 10.77, Jalen Law was fifth in 10.98 and Mitchell Fuller sixth in 11.25. Austin Price was victorious in the triple jump with a MAC-qualifying leap of 14.42 meters. Kaishaun Cathey placed third with a mark of 13.85, while Austin Ashby finished fifth in 13.67 meters.

On the women's side, UB won the 400 relay in 48.19 and Taylor Woods claimed the discus title with a throw of 45.20 meters, while Miranda Daucher was the runner-up with a heave of 45.20 meters.

The UB men won the javelin, long jump, 3,000 steeplechase, 4x100 relay, 400, 1,500 and the 110 hurdles.

Arnis Mehmetaj was victorious in the javelin with a toss of 49.38 meters. Ashby won the long with a leap of 6.87 meters and Don McCann placed second with a mark of 6.71 meters.

The Bulls placed three in the steeple, 400 and 1,500, winning them all. John McCarthy won the steeple in 9:21.26. Austin Coneys raced third and Derek Palafox fourth with times of 9:36.36 and 9:40.21, respectively. The Bulls went one-two-three in the 400. Joshua Gali won the race in 48.94, Tyler Scheving was the runner-up in 49.17 and Brian Crimmins earned bronze with a time of 49.23. Crimmins also won the 1,500 in 3:52.35, while Scheving placed third in 3:54.50. Zach Ahart finished eighth in 3:58.30.

Jake Wray clocked a 14.86 finish in the 110 high hurdles to win the event. Christian Doherty followed in fourth in 15.78. UB's 4x100 relay raced to a first-place finish of 41.49.

Bulls placed second and fourth in the 400 hurdles and discus. Mitchell Moore was second in the hurdles in 55.75 and Treyvon Mask fourth with a finish of 57.36. Ryan Cribbin was the runner-up in the discus with a mark of 47.17 meters and Devon Patterson placed fourth with a throw of 42.64 meters. He also placed second in the shot put with a 15.91-meter heave. Cribbin followed in third with a 15.34-meter toss and Sean Harvey placed fourth with a 14.53-meter mark.

Barrett Kemp ran third in the 5K with a finish of 14:51.11.

Malayah White raced to a second-place finish of 12.22 in the 100 dash. Tyra Forbes placed fifth in 12.46 in the 100 and was fourth in the long with a leap of 5.30 meters.

Two scored for the Bulls in the 400 hurdles, 1,500 and 5,000 runs and the shot put. Brianna Colello and Asher Beasely went two-three in the hurdles with times of 1:04.64 and 1:05.72, respectively. Corinne Birchard raced to a fourth-place finish of 4:42.20 in the 1,500, while Natalie Muller placed eighth in 4:49.71. In the 5K, Amy Shaw placed fourth in 18:05.51 and Morgan Mahoney fifth in 18:05.71. Joanna Hallisy finished sixth in the shot with a mark of 13.14 meters and McKenzie Kuehlewind seventh with a toss of 13.11 meters.

The Bulls will next compete on Friday and Saturday, April 3-4. The Florida Relays and the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational are both two-day meets, while the Rochester Alumni Invitational will take place on Saturday.
