Morgan Sits Second In The Heptathlon Through Four Events at NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, AR – University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's track & field junior Mike Morgan competed at day one of the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships Friday at Arkansas' Randal Tyson Track Center.

Morgan, the school record holder in the event, tallied 3,372 points to sit second through four events. He recorded 840 points with a 7.12 finish in the 60-meter dash, 910 with a 7.40-meter jump in the long jump, 697 with a heave of 13.49 meters in the shot put, before closing out the day with a 2.13-meter clear in the high jump. His clear set a new personal record and was the best in the field of 14 competitors.

Returning to his second straight indoor championships, Morgan looks to better his seventh-place finish of 5,766 points that earned him First-Team All-America honors in 2014. He set the school record in the event with a 5,772-point showing set at the Cornell Upstate Challenge on Jan. 24.

Heptathlon competition will resume with the 60 hurdles at 10:45 am CT Saturday, while senior Jonathan Jones will compete in the open shot put at 6:30 pm.
