MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's and women's track & field teams competed Saturday at day two of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Central Michigan.
The men recorded their third straight fourth-place finish with 73 points, while the women placed fifth with 50.
Senior Jonathan Jones had a MAC Championship and school-record setting toss in the shot put to pick up 10 points for the Bulls. With his second throw of finals, a 20.06-meter heave, he rewrote his own indoor school record of 19.95 meters and his meet record of 19.59 meters. It is the fifth-furthest throw in the NCAA this season. Freshman Devon Patterson placed fifth in the shot with a mark of 16.93 meters.
On the women's side, UB took gold in the 200-meter dash and the 800 run. Junior Camaria Long raced to a 24.40 finish to win the 200, while her third-place finish of 7.56 in the 60 dash rewrote her own school record of 7.57 set earlier this season. Senior Meghan Manley won the 800 in 2:11.72.
A pair of Bulls took second on the men's side. Senior Craig Howard fell just five points shy of first place, tallying 5,439 points in the heptathlon. On the second day of competition, he raced first in the final event with a 2:44.40 1,000 run and was second in the vault with a clear of 4.88 meters. Howard also clocked an 8.51 finish in the hurdles. Junior Tyler Scheving had a time of 1:53.61 in the 800 to earn silver. Rookie Tom Meehan followed in fifth with a finish of 1:54.04.
The men had a trio place third. Junior Brian Crimmins did so in the mile run with a time of 4:10.62, senior Jake Wray finished the 60 hurdles in 8.11 and junior Laurent Dure' cleared 2.05 meters in the high jump.
Senior Emma Siuciak cleared 1.73 meters in the high jump to place fourth. The men's squad had three add fourth-place finishes with junior Austin Ashby jumping 14.43 meters in the triple, senior Darien Johnson finishing the 60 dash in 6.90 and the 4x400 relay of sophomore Joshua Gali, Scheving, sophomore Treyvon Mask and freshman Mitchell Moore crossing the finish line in 3:19.58.
The Bulls will next compete at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships March 13-14 at Arkansas. The NCAA will release its championship field Tuesday evening.
