ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed Saturday at Cornell's Marc Deneault Invitational at Barton Hall. The teams combined to meet nine Mid-American Conference automatic qualifiers, while recording 18 top-three finishes.
The women had three event winners hit MAC AQs. Corinne Birchard won the 800-meter run in 2:12.13, Emma Siuciak cleared 1.77 meters in the high jump, just one centimeter shy of her school record, and Tyra Forbes won the long jump with a leap of 5.83 meters. Kelly Truppo cleared 3.90 meters in the pole vault to hit the qualifier and place third.
The men won a pair of events, reaching the MAC AQ in both. Brian Cummiskey was victorious in the 60 dash with a time of 6.85, while Mike Morgan raced third in 7.03. Morgan also finished third in the pole vault with a 4.90-meter clear. Austin Price took gold in the triple jump with a mark of 14.92 meters. Kaishaun Cathey joined him in hitting the qualifier with a second-place distance of 14.78 meters. Price also finished third in the long, jumping 7.02 meters.
The men also met qualifiers in the hurdles and high. Jake Wray raced to an 8.15 finish in the preliminaries of the 60 hurdles before placing fourth in the finals with a finish of 8.33. Chris Reape was the runner-up in the high jump at 2.09 meters.
The women dominated the throwing events taking one-two-three in the weight and two-three in the shot. McKenzie Kuehlewind won the weight with a toss of 16.25 meters. Miranda Daucher placed second with a throw of 15.83 meters and Taylor Woods followed in third with a 15.07-meter heave. Joanna Hallisy had a throw of 13.42 meters to earn silver in the shot. Kuehlewind placed third throwing 13.38 meters.
The Bulls will compete on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28 at the MAC Indoor Championships hosted by Central Michigan.
