GENEVA, OH – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed Friday at day one of the SPIRE Division I Invitational. Melinda Wheeler and Tyler Scheving each snapped school records in the 1,000-meter run to top all performances, while two others met Mid-American Conference automatic qualifiers on the track.
Wheeler placed 11th out of 26 runners with a time of 2:51.61, snapping the 2006 record of 2:52.06 held by Jen Jezorski. This marks the second time this season Wheeler broke a record of Jezorski's, having rewritten the mile record on Feb. 1.
Scheving placed second out of 27 in the 1K with a time of 2:23.73. He reset teammate Brian Crimmins' 2013 record of 2:24.16 in the event. Crimmins followed in fourth place with a time of 2:24.21.
Camaria Long and Zach Ahart raced to MAC-qualifying finishes in their respective events. Long finished the 200 dash third out of 64 competitors with a time of 24.22, while Ahart placed 15th in the 5K with a time of 14:42.89.
The Bulls will return to action Saturday. Field events will kick off at 10 am and the track will go live at 10:30 am.
