NEW YORK, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's and women's track & field teams opened their 2015 indoor season Friday at the New York City Gotham Cup held at the Armory Track & Field Center.

The women had 14 individuals place top 10 and a pair of relays, while meeting three Mid-American Conference automatic qualifiers. The men placed 16 individuals and a pair of relays in the top 10 with two clocking MAC AQs.

Melinda Wheeler and Amy Shaw clocked MAC qualifiers in the 3,000-meter run with finishes of 9:41.83 and 9:47.14, respectively. Kailyn Arcury also met a qualifier placing fourth in the 60 hurdles in 8.68.

The Bulls placed two in the top 10 in four additional events, including two throws. McKenzie Kuehlewind finished fourth in the shot with a heave of 13.41 meters and placed seventh in the weight with a mark of 15.57 meters. Joanna Hallisy placed eighth in the shot with a 12.88-meter toss and Miranda Daucher was ninth in the weight with a 15.27-meter throw.

Kelly Truppo and Taylor Bates finished third and ninth, respectively, in the pole vault with clears of 3.75 and 3.60 meters.

On the track, Meaghan Wessel finished third in the 5K and Maggie Russell followed in eighth. Wessel crossed the finish line in 18:20.75, while Russell did so in 19:02.96. Corinne Birchard placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 5:03.06.

Camaria Long had a pair of top-10 finishes in the dashes. She raced to a fifth-place finish of 24.76 in the 200 and placed seventh in the 60 with a time of 7.64.

UB's DMR ran second to Connecticut with a 12:12.67 finish, while the Bulls' 4x400 placed fifth in 3:55.53.

On the men's side, Mike Morgan placed fourth in the 60 hurdles with a conference qualifier of 8.06. Hitting the Bulls' other AQ was Darien Johnson earning silver in the 60 dash with a 6.80 performance.

Morgan also cleared 4.80 meters in the pole vault to place fourth. Adam Hume followed in ninth with a 4.50-meter clear.

Three Bulls placed three in the top 10 in the shot. Devon Patterson and Sean Harvey finished fourth and fifth with throws of 16.08 meter and 15.16 meters. Ryan Cribbin was ninth with a 14.68-meter mark. Cribbin also placed sixth in the weight with a toss of 16.65 meters.

UB placed two in the high jump and the mile run. Chris Reape was the runner-up in the high clearing 2.04 meters. Laurent Dure' followed in eighth with a height of 1.99 meters. Cameron Bruce raced to a seventh-place finish of 4:16.90 in the mile. Zach Ahart followed in 10th in 4:17.43.

Don McCann placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.92 meters.

On the track, Tyler Scheving placed ninth in the 500 clocking in at 1:04.82. Joshua Gali and Lloyd Webb each placed 10th. Gali did so in the 400 in 49.47 and Webb ran 10th in the 5,000 in 15:38.95.

UB's DMR ran sixth in 10:33.78 and its 4x400 relay placed seventh in 3:21.16.

The Bulls return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Cornell Upstate Challenge.
