Price Continues His Academic Winning Ways

BUFFALO, NY - Two-Time MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week and Perennial All-MAC Academic Team Member Austin Price continued his impressive performance in the Academic realm on Tuesday afternoon.

At the Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) Annual Summer Research Symposium, held at the Newman Center on UB's North Campus, Price was honored among the twenty 2014 CSTEP Summer Research Internship Scholars.

Price, a rising senior and Pre-Med/Biological Sciences major, was placed at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute under Professor of Oncology and Vice Chairman, Department of Head and Neck Surgery/Plastic & reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Moni Kuriakose.  His summer project "Correlation of Microvessel Density and the Degree of Dysplasia" earned him a top five placement among the twenty competing interns.  His strong finish in the competition earned him an all-expense paid trip to present his research at the Statewide CSTEP Conference hosted by Syracuse University's CSTEP program to be held in Lake George in Spring 2015.

"Austin continues to be exemplary on and off the field", said Senior Associate AD for Athletic & Academic Performance, Donald Reed.  "As he moves into his senior year, we are proud to see him push the standards of Academic and Athletic excellence."

On the track, Price currently holds the school's outdoor record in the triple jump with a leap of 51-0.25 (15.55m) and most recently placed fourth in the triple jump at the Outdoor MAC Championships.

The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is a grant-funded program sponsored by the New York State Department of Education to support talented underrepresented students pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), licensed professions and health-related professions.
