EUGENE, OR - The University at Buffalo track and field team had three freshman athletes compete at the USATF Junior National Championships this past weekend at the historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Alec Peinkofer gave the Bulls their best finish as he took home eighth place in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Competing against the best athletes in the world under the age of 20, Peinkofer was very impressive for the Bulls on Sunday as he recorded a eighth place finish out of 13 competitors. The Baldwinsville, NY native had a strong run as he finished in 9:42.41, ranking fifth amongst collegiate freshman in the event.
On Saturday, UB had a pair of female athletes in action as Corinne Birchard and Christine Lyttle took to the track. In the 1,500m run, Birchard recorded a 14th place finish as she finished the event in 4:45.97, ranking her fourth amongst collegiate freshman in the event. In the 100m hurdles event, Lyttle took home 14th place after finishing in 14.70 seconds in her preliminary round run. Lyttle ranked sixth in the event amongst collegiate freshman athletes.
