Track And Field Closes Out Day Two At NCAA East Region Preliminaries

JACKSONVILLE, FLA - The University at Buffalo track and field teams had a total of nine athletes competing in events on Friday afternoon at the NCAA East Region Prelims. Eight Bulls competed in the finals of their event but none were able to earn a top 12 finish to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Senior thrower Evan Palmer wrapped up his fantastic season with a strong showing in the hammer throw, taking home 13th place for the Bulls. Palmer's throw traveled 209'01.00" (63.74m), just failing to move on to the NCAA's and just falling short of his school record distance from earlier this season.

In other field events, Kelly Truppo cleared a season best height of 13'03.50 (4.05m) in the pole vault en route to a 20th place finish while Emma Siuciak finished in 20th in the high jump, clearing a height of 5'09.75" (1.77m). Austin Price was not able to move on in the triple jump as he recorded a 34th place finish with a leap of 48'04.75" (14.75m).

On the track, UB had three athletes in the finals of their events but none were able to qualify for the championships. Donna Jeanty ran a good race in the 400m hurdles but she finished in 19th place in 58.57 seconds. Miles Lewis closed out his Buffalo career with a 21st place finish in the 100m dash, finishing in 10.51 seconds. Asia Henry did not perform like she wanted to in her final meet as she took home 23rd place in the 800m run in 2:19.16.

Ryan Billian could not punch his second ticket to the NCAA Tournament in as many days as he finished in 36th place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.28 seconds. With a chance to qualify for the finals in the 200m dash on Saturday, sophomore Camaria Long had a strong showing but could not advance, finishing in 23.90 seconds.

So far, three Bulls have punched their ticket for the NCAA Championships, Jonathan Jones (Shot put), Mike Morgan (Dacathlon) and Billian (Long jump).

The Bulls have five athletes left to compete on the final day of the NCAA East Region Preliminaries which will be held on Saturday, May 31. Field events will begin at 10:00 am with the men's pole vault while the track events start at 6:00 pm with the men's 4x100m relay.
