Bulls Field Athletes Dominate First Day At The Bison Open

LEWISBURG, PA - The University at Buffalo track and field teams wrapped up day one action at the Bison Open on Saturday afternoon with multiple first place finishers. The Bulls collected five first place finishes including four in field events.

In what has become a common occurance for the UB Bulls this season, the throwers dominated the field for Buffalo on Saturday. Leading the way once again was senior Evan Palmer, who won the discus event for the first time this season. Palmer recorded a personal best throw of 181'10" (55.43m) while fellow senior Jonathan Jones finished in second place with a personal best toss of 168'06" (51.37m). On the women's side, Taylor Woods collected her first victory of the outdoor season with a career-best throw of 153'05" (46.77m) in the discus. Freshman Miranda Daucher also was impressive on Saturday, taking home a second place finish with a personal best throw of 147'04" (44.92m).

The UB men and women collected another sweep of first place finishes in the high jump as Emma Siuciak and John Strickland both took home victories. Appearing in her first outdoor meet of the season, Siuciak cruised to a first place finish with a leap that cleared 5'10.75" (1.80m). On the men's side, Strickland continued his strong start to the season clearing a season-best height of 6'08.25" (2.04m) en route to his second high jump victory of the season. Teammate Kevin Enck had a solid day in the same event, recording a ninth place finish after clearing a height of 6'00.50" (1.84m).

Jacob Sunday set a personal best mark in the javelin as he recorded a throw of 221'10" (67.62m) which was good for third place. Sunday has finished in the top five in the javelin in all three outdoor meets this season for the Bulls. On the women's side, Siuciak took home a 15th place finish in the javelin after a season-best throw of 114'04" (34.85m).

Appearing in the long jump for the second time this season, junior Kelly Truppo was impressive as she took home a fifth place finish. Truppo finished the event with a career-best leap of 18'01.75" (5.53m).

The lone Bull to claim a first place finish on the track on Saturday was senior Kara Patrick who turned in a season-best time of 17:38.75 in the 5,000 meter run. Freshman Melinda Wheeler had a solid run in the 1,500 meter run as she finished in 11th place with a career-best time of 4:37.95 while Fabiola Oubida took home 10th place in the unseeded 1,500 meter run for UB in a season-best time of 4:46.21.

The Bulls will return to action on Sunday morning at the Bison Open for the final day of the meet.
