Palmer And Jones Collect Titles On Day One Of Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, FL – Day one of competition at the Florida Relays concluded on Friday afternoon as the University at Buffalo track and field teams had multiple impressive efforts. The Bulls had two throwers, Evan Palmer and Jonathan Jones, win their events while two school records also fell.

Palmer continued his impressive senior season on Friday afternoon in the hammer throw as he dominated the 25-man field of competitors from some of the major programs in the country. Palmer recorded a first place finish with a school record throw of 208'06" (63.56m), defeating the second place finisher by more than six feet.

Jones picked up his first win of the season in the discus as he racked up a season-best throw of 169'10" (51.78m). Jones won the event by over a foot over the second place finisher, James Plummer, from Clemson.

Jacob Sunday finished off the Bulls impressive day in field events with a fourth place finish in the javelin. Sunday finished with a throw of 218'11" (66.73m), his second best throw of the outdoor season.

On the track for the Bulls, Donna Jeanty was impressive as she recorded a seventh place finish in the 400-meter hurdles event. Jeanty finished in a school record time of 58.13 seconds.

Defending 800 meter run indoor MAC Champion, Asia Henry, had a strong showing in the 800 meter run as she posted a season-best time of 2:08.89 while recording a 14th place finish. Fellow teammate Meghan Manley came in 31st place in the same event with a time of 2:15.13.

Crystal Graham came in 45th place in the 400-meter dash for the Bulls as she finished in 55.88 seconds. Her season-best time in the event was recorded at the Wake Forest Open and was just ahead of her pace today, 55.41 seconds.

In the field events for the women, Kelly Truppo continued to lead the Bulls in the pole vault as she took home a fifth place finish, clearing her highest height of the young outdoor season, 13-03.50 (4.05m). Fellow Bull, Jenna Van Dusen took home 20th place in the same event while clearing 11-09.75 (3.60m).

On the men's side on the track, Brian Crimmins racked up a season-best time of 1:51.37 in the 800 meter run as he took home 19th place. Tyler Scheving finished in 28th place as he finished in 1:52.50.

Ryan Billian had a strong showing in the 110 meter hurdles event as he just missed a school record and personal best time of 14.05 seconds. Billian recorded a 20th place finish in 14.07 seconds. In the 100-meter dash, Miles Lewis recorded a season-best time of 10.42 seconds while taking home 21st place.

The Bulls will return to the track tomorrow morning in Gainesville, FL for Day two of the Florida Relays. The competition will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday with the women's hammer throw.
