Bulls Finishes Wake Forest Open On A High Note

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The University at Buffalo track and field teams wrapped up day two action at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday afternoon on a high note. The Bulls had six first place finishes including three from their relay teams.

Leading the way for Buffalo on Saturday was their relay teams, who won three of the four events on the day. On the women's side, the team of Malayah White, Donna Jeanty, Camaria Long and Crystal Graham collected the victory in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.74 seconds. In the 4x400 meter relay the Bulls took home first and second place finishes. The team of Graham, Asia Henry, Long and Jeanty put together a blazing time of 3:42.49 to earn first place, more than eight seconds ahead of the second place team from Buffalo of Kyla Kenyon, Regine Lazard, Sara Flores and Uwa Omorogbe.

The men's relay quartet of Darien Johnson, Miles Lewis, Joshua Gali and Ryan Billian were alos impressive on Saturday as they earned the first place finish in 40.90 seconds, more than a second ahead of the next team.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Jeanty proved to be the best in the field as she ran her way to a first place finish in 59.23 seconds. Jeanty was the lone competeitor to finish in under a minute. Defending indoor 200 meter MAC champion, Long put forth a strong effort in the 200 meter dash as she collected a third place finish in 24.57 seconds while White came in eighth in 25.19 seconds.

In the men's 200 meter dash, the Bulls saw two athletes record top five finishes as Lewis led the way finishing in third place in 21.41 seconds. Not far behind was Billian, who came in fifth place in 21.46 seconds.

In the field events, the Bulls had two athletes collect first place finishes as John Strickland was impressive in the high jump, clearing 6-08.00 (2.03m). Fellow Bull Chris Reape also took home fourth place in the event as he had a leap of 6-06.00 (1.98m). In the women's pole vault, Kelly Truppo continued to lead the Buffalo women as she finished in first place after clearing a height of 13-01.50 (4.00m).

Evan Palmer had another strong showing on Saturday for UB as he earned a second place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 173-05.00 (52.86m). In the women's discus event, Taylor Woods was strong for the Bulls, earning a fourth place finish with a throw of 146-04.00 (44.61m). Don McCann also earned a second place finish in the long jump for Buffalo with a long leap of 23-01.25 (7.04m) while Austin Ashby finished close behind in fourth place with a leap of 22-11.75 (7.00m).

The Bulls will return to the track on Friday, April 4 as they will travel to compete in the Sam Howell Invite in Princeton, NJ. The UB relay teams will head to the Florida Relays on Friday, April 4 as well. Both meets will be two-day meets with day two being held on Saturday, April 5.
