2010-11: Did not compete during the outdoor season.  

2009-10: Won the MAC javelin title with his school record throw of 227-5 at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Earned first-team All-MAC and was selected Outstanding Men’s Field Performer at the meet. Named to the Academic All-MAC outdoor track and field team. Placed 27th in the javelin (200-3) at the NCAA East Preliminaries.

2008-09: Named Top Newcomer for the outdoor season. First UB javelin thrower to eclipse 200 feet with a school record toss of 209-9 at the Campbell/Wright Open. Placed fifth at the MAC Outdoor Championships (195-8). Competed at the NCAA East Regionals with a ninth-place finish (203-8). Finished fourth at the Canadian Nationals (207-0).

High School: Earned two letters for coach Shelley Pretty at Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. Set a junior school record in the javelin (51.58m). Named to the Canadian National Team for the 2007 Junior Pan American Games.  Also played volleyball in high school.

Personal: Born May 9, 1989. Son of Henry and Barb Garbaty. Has two sisters (Jenna, Andrea). Favorite athlete is Olympic champion and javelin world record holder Jan Zelezny. Favorite foods include pizza and ribs. Favorite TV shows inclulde How I Met Your Mother and Family Guy. Lists his parents and coaches as his greatest athletic influences. Majoring in business management.
