BUFFALO, NY - Five Bulls were named to the Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning. Brian Archie, Andre Britton, Dylan Conway and John Inzina all made it on the men's side, while Emma Denton earned the honors on the women's side.
Archie, a junior international business and Spanish major with a 3.319 grade point average, competed as both a sprinter and a long jumper this past season setting a season-high in the long jump at 23-2.75 (7.08) at the Toledo Collegiate Challenge in late March. Archie also set season bests in the 100 meters (11.33) and 200 meters (22.90) at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.
Britton, a senior social sciences major with a 3.218 grade point average, set his season high in the 200 meters at the MAC Championships as he finished in second place, behind fellow teammate Miles Lewis. Britton ran 21.17 at the event. He also took part in the 100 meters as he set a season-high at the MAC Championships at 10.62. Britton was also a member of the 4x100 relay that ran 41.16 at the conference meet.
Conway recorded another academic honor, having already been named to the Academic All-District Team in late May. Conway, a Mechanical Engineering major with a 3.97 GPA, finished with top times in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races during the outdoor season, while also having the top time in the 5,000 meters during the indoor season. Back in the Fall, Conway finished 15th in the MAC Cross Country Championships and 38th at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
Inzina, a senior electrical engineering major with a 3.569 grade point average, ran UB's top time in the 1,500 meters this year as he ran 3:58.81 at the Cortland Classic Invitational. He also ran 14:50.26 in the 5,000-meter run and 31:08.44 in the 10,000-meter run.
Denton, an exercise and nutrition science major with a 3.885 grade point average, ran 11:31.19 in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase at the Rochester Invitational and 18:14.52 in the 5,000 meters at the Toledo Collegiate Challenge.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
