DES MOINES, IA - Three days after junior Asia Henry became a second-team All-American in the 800m, senior Rob Golabek earned his All-American honors Saturday morning in the shot put. Golabek finished 12th of 24 participants as he was named a second-team All-American.
Golabek threw 61-0.25 (18.60m) on his final throw in the second flight to move from 20th place up to 12th place and earn his fourth All-American status of his career. Jordan Clarke of Arizona State won the shot put competition with a throw of 66-11.25 (20.40m).
Golabek had to fight back as his first throw went 58-6.75 (17.85m) and then he fouled his second throw. However, he was able to go 18.60m on his final throw, which secured his spot on the Second Team.
Earlier in the week, Henry finished 14th in the 800m, just the second UB female to make the NCAA Championships in a track event. Henry will return next season for the Bulls, while Golabek wraps up his career as a four-time All-American and the UB record holder in the shot put both indoors and outdoors.
