DES MOINES, IA - Junior Asia Henry set a new school record in the 800 meters on Wednesday evening as she finished in 14th place at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, IA.
Henry finished in fourth place in her heat with a time of 2:04.65, setting a new school record that had stood since 2004. Allison Laske, the last UB runner to head to nationals, held the record at 2:04.81 until tonight. Charlene Libsey of LSU won the heat at 2:03.76. Overall, Chanelie Price of Tennessee finished at 2:01.66 to lead the field into Friday's National Final.
Henry finished 14th of 24 runners, capping off a brilliant junior season that spanned both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Today she set her seventh different school record of the year and now holds the 800 meter record both indoors and outdoors.
"I'm very happy for Asia and what she was able to accomplish this season especially after coming back from two knee surgeries last year," said head coach Perry Jenkins. "This was a high a point of her season, but now that she has been here she expects to come back next year and be an All-American."
The Bulls will have one more competitor at the NCAA Championships on Saturday as Rob Golabek competes in the shot put.
