TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams both turned in second-place finishes at the Toledo Collegiate Challenge on Saturday. The UB women won four events while the UB men took of a pair of competitions on Saturday.
The women's 4x100-meter relay squad set a new record in winning their race on Saturday. The foursome of Jamiee McClary, Anna Holmes, Brooklynn Ventura and Crystal Graham finished in 46.21, lowering the previous record, set last season, by three-tenths of a second.
Also taking victories on the track for the UB women were Asia Henry in the 800-meters and Donna Jeanty in the 400-meter hurdles. Henry led three UB racers to the top three spots in the 800-meters winning in 2:11.67. Freshman Meghan Manley was second in 2:13.73 and Jackie Burns was third in 2:14.40. Jeanty and Holmes finished first and second in the 400-meter hurdles. Jeanty took the race in 1:01.10 while Holmes finished in 1:02.07.
Rachel Roberts and Kristy Woods turned in a one-two finish in the women's shot put. Roberts took the event with a throw of 14.61 meters with Woods right behind at 14.53 meters. Woods also finished second in the women's hammer throw at 54.61 meters as Erin Miller was third at 52.68 meters. Additionally, Miller placed fifth in the women's discus throw at 39.67 meters.
For the UB men, Brian Archie won the men's long jump with a leap of 7.08 meters. Tomarris
Bell placed second at 6.94 meters and Sigusmund Ajavon was fifth at 6.64 meters. The Bulls also placed three among the top five in the men's triple jump as Bell took second at 14.44 meters with Doug Hannon third at 14.24 meters and Marvin Cox fifth at 13.94 meters.
John Inzina also scored a first-place finish for UB's distance runners as he took the 5,000-meters in 14:50.26. Andris Goncarovs (14:57.47) and Zach Ahart (14:58.03) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Ventura had a second-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 14.07 while Graham was second in the women's 200-meters in 25.47. Leah Rice took second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:25.47. UB's women's 4x400-meter relay team also placed second in 3:56.79. Kelly Truppo was third in the women's pole vault at 3.35 meters while Kaytlin Mack also vaulted 3.35 meters for a fourth-place finish. Emma Siuciak was fourth in the women's long jump at 5.43 meters and Jackie Cavalluzzo finished fourth in the women's 1,500-meters in 4:43.89.
Men's throwers Rob Golabek and Corey Knox finished second in their events on Saturday. Golabek was second in the shot put at 18.27 meters while Knox placed second in the discus at 50.99 meters. Shane Smith was fourth in the discus at 47.30 meters.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team finished third in 3:20.88. Other third-place finishers included Daniel Reynolds in the pole vault (4.55 meters), Chris Reape in the high jump (1.93 meters), Jacob Wray in the 110-meter hurdles (15.05) and Will Cole in the 400-meter hurdles (54.01). John Strickland was fourth in the men's high jump (1.88 meters) and Dylan Conway placed fourth in the men's 2,000-meter steeplechase at 6:11.72.
Several of UB's top athletes will compete next weekend at the Florida Relays while the remainder of the team will be at the Rochester Invitational on April 7.
