WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The University at Buffalo began its outdoor track and field season at the Wake Forest Open at Kentner Track in Winston-Salem, NC. There was no team scoring in the meet.
The UB women had a first-place finish by freshman Kelly Truppo in the B flight of the pole vault. Truppo cleared 11-5.75 (3.50m) with Kaytlin Mack finishing second at 10-11.75 (3.35m) and Jenna Van Dusen was fourth at 10-6 (3.20m).
UB also had a second and third place finish in a pair of women's throws. In the hammer, Erin Miller placed second with a toss of 181-2 (55.21m) while Kristy Woods finished third at 180-7 (55.04m). Woods would finish second in the A portion of the women's shot put at 49-9.25 (15.17m). Rachel Roberts was third at 47-2.50 (14.39m). Emma Siuciak finished third in the B portion of the women's shot put at 33-4.50 (10.17m).
Shane Smith had a second-place finish in the men's discus with a throw of 157-6 (48.02m). He also finished fifth in the A portion of the men's shot put at 52-1.25 (15.88m). Kevin Enck finished third in the men's high jump B competition at 6-3.50 (1.92m).
On the track, Miles Lewis led the men's team with a third-place finish in the 200-meters in 21.57. He also placed ninth in the 100-meters in 10.75. Lewis also helped the men's 4x100-meter relay squad to a fourth-place showing in 41.32. Joining Lewis on the foursome were Tomarris Bell, Andre Britton and Brian Archie.
Brooklynn Ventura finished fourth in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 14.04 with Siuciak taking seventh in 14.82. The Bulls also had three of the top eight finishers in the women's 400-meter hurdles with Donna Jeanty taking fourth in 1:00.36. Anna Holmes was fifth in 1:01.43 and Regine Lazard was eighth in 1:02.88. UB's women's 4x400-meter relay team also placed fourth as the team of Jamiee McClary, Jeanty, Ventura and Asia Henry turned in a 3:42.84 clocking, breaking the school record set in 2011.
The Bulls next travel to the Toledo Collegiate Challenge on March 31.
