NOTRE DAME, IN – Members of the University at Buffalo men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational in a last chance attempt to improve their marks for the upcoming NCAA National Championships.
Shot putters Kristy Woods and Rob Golabek competed on Saturday. Woods finished third in the women's event with a throw of 50-0.50 (15.25m) while Golabek was fourth in the men's competition at 61-5.50 (18.73m). Neither thrower improved on their season-best distances. Golabek's top mark this season of 63-3.50 (19.29m) is ranked among the top 10 throws in the country, although the distance is six centimeters shy of automatic qualification.
Middle-distance specialist Asia Henry finished 20th in the women's 800-meter run in 2:11.84. Henry also anchored the 4x400-meter relay team to an eighth-place finish in 3:42.23. The foursome also included Jamiee McClary, Donna Jeanty and Brooklynn Ventura.
The Bulls have one automatic qualifier to next weekend's NCAA National Indoor Track and Field Championships in Nampa, ID. Becky O'Brien will compete in the women's shot put. She holds the UB and Mid-American Conference records at 57-8.25 (17.58m). The fields will be announced early in the upcoming week.
