EUGENE, OR – Four members of the University at Buffalo Track and Field Team were in Eugene, OR this past weekend competing in the USATF Nationals and Junior Nationals. UB's standout throwers Rob Golabek and Becky O'Brien competed at Nationals, while rising stars Donna Jeanty and Zach Ahart ran events in the Junior Nationals.
Golabek, competing in the shot put, set a new personal and school record with a throw of 63-9.5 (19.44m) to finish in 12th place. He was second among collegiate entrants in the event that featured the best throwers in country. Adam Nelson, a two-time Olympic medalist, won the event.
O'Brien finished in 16th place in the discus as she threw 159-7 (48.66m). She was one of six collegiate competitors in the event, which was won by Stephanie Brown Trafton, the 2008 gold medalist at the Bejing Olympics.
Jeanty competed at the Junior Nationals, where she finished in seventh place in the 400m hurdles. Jeanty qualified for the finals with a fifth place finish in the preliminary round, running a 1:02.26. In the finals Jeanty ran a 1:04.19. California's Angelica Weaver won the event.
Ahart competed in the 5,000m run placing 26th with a time of 15:11.28. Ahart finished better than 16 athletes, that were all seeded higher than him. Ammar Moussa won the event in a time of 14:06.61.
