UB Women's Indoor Track and Field Announces Awards

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's indoor track and field squad announced its team awards for the 2011 season. Head coach Vicki Mitchell and her staff made the following presentations: Donna Jeanty was named as Top Newcomer; Ajla Glavasevic earned the Most Improved Award; Shante' White won the Coaches' Award and Becky O'Brien was selected as the Most Valuable Performer.

Jeanty set UB's top times in the women's 400- (56.95) and 500-meter (1:15.42) dashes. She broke the school record in the 500-meters at the Penn State National Meet, finishing fifth of 25 in a strong field that included several runners from nationally-known programs. She helped the Bulls to a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:46.68) at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Glavasevic earned a fourth-place finish in the pentathlon at the MAC Championships with 3,580 points as she finished second in the shot put portion of the competition with a throw of 39-7 (12.06m) and fourth in the long jump portion at 17-11.75 (5.48m). She broke the UB school record for the pentathlon with 3,758 points at the Cornell Upstate Challenge where she posted UB's top marks for the season in the high jump (5-3, 1.60m) and long jump (18-9.75, 5.73m). She was also named to the Academic All-MAC Indoor Track and Field team.

White placed fifth in the weight throw (56-4.75, 17.19m) and seventh in the shot put (46-2.75, 14.09m) at the MAC Indoor Championships. She set UB's top weight throw mark of 56-10 (17.32m) at the Penn State Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup and posted her top shot put distance of 46-5.50 (14.16m) at the Akron Invitational. White was also named to the Academic All-MAC Indoor Track and Field team.

O'Brien had an outstanding indoor season as she earned second-team All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, TX with her 11th-place finish in the shot put (54-4.75, 16.58m). She won the MAC indoor shot put title as she set the MAC record at 54-9.25 (16.69m) and was an All-MAC First Team honoree. Earlier in the year, O'Brien set the UB and MAC regular season record of 56-1.25 (17.10m) at the Penn State National Meet. O'Brien also set a team-best in the discus throw at 171-7 (52.29m) at the Akron Invitational. She was also named to the Academic All-MAC Indoor Track and Field team.

The Bulls finished ninth among 12 teams at the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Bowling Green, OH.
