Golabek Wins Shot Put at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, TX – The University at Buffalo's Rob Golabek won the men's shot put on Saturday as the 84th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays came to a conclusion at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Golabek broke his own UB school record with his winning throw of 62-7.75 (19.09m) on his fourth of six attempts in the competition. Golabek actually broke the mark twice on Saturday as he added four centimeters to previous record when his first throw of the day went for 18.75m. Golabek won the event by more than a foot over Arizona's Bozidar Antunovic, who finished at 61-7.50 (18.78m).

Becky O'Brien competed in the women's shot put event on Saturday. She finished fifth with a top mark of 53-9 (16.38m). O'Brien added nearly four feet to her top throw of the season (49-10, 15.19m) that she posted at last weekend's Toledo Collegiate Challenge. The throw by O'Brien is UB's top mark this season, bettering Rachel Roberts' winning mark of 50-4.75 (15.36m) at last week's meet.

The Bulls also fielded one relay team on Saturday as the men's distance medley relay squad finished 11th in 10:14.32. The foursome consisted of Shaun Brummert, Brian Smith, Isaiah Mask and Ryan Zillmann.
